Batang Pier subdue Bossing

KEVIN Murphy erupted for 47 points as Northport Batang Pier outsteadied Blackwater Bossing, 110-104, and claim their second straight victory in the PBA Governors’ Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

Murphy struck hardest in the fourth quarter as he scored 14 points.

He finished with 5-of-10 shooting from the three-point territory on top of 16 rebounds and four steals in 42 minutes of action.

Robert Bolick came off the bench and added 24 points, seven rebounds and six assists while JM Calma had 10 points and five rebounds for the Batang Pier of coach Bonnie Tan.

“We’re very happy to win again. this id only our second win, but we’re going up. But we prefer to focus on the task at hand. Isa-isang game lang muna ang tinitignan namin,” said Tan, whose team remains in a must-win situation against Magnolia on Thursday, Rain or Shine two days later and TNT on March 15.

Shawn Glover paced Blackwater with 20 points on 9-of-15 shooting and nine rebounds in 35 minutes on the floor Gab Banal added 19 points, Jvee Casio had 14 points and Myke Ayonayon contributed 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists for the Ariel Vanguardia-mentored Blackwater.

Blackwater actually had more rebounds, 44-42, and more assists, 29-20.

Northport, however, had more steals with six against only two for Blackwater.

In the second game, NLEX downed Rain or Shine, 110-99, behind Louie Alas’ 28.points and Wayne Selden’s 21 points and 10 rebounds.

Rey Nambatac paced Rain or Shine wth 26 points.
