Baby Falcons soar in high school volleyball
ADAMSON completed its date with history with a 25-18, 25-18, 28-26 conquest of National University Nazareth School in the UAAP high school girls volleyball tournament last night at the Filoil EcoOil Centre.
The Baby Falcons swept the best-of-three series, 2-0, and went undefeated in 14 matches for their first-ever championship.
The triumph was a follow-up to Adamson’s title conquest in boys basketball last Sunday, where the Baby Falcons ended a 31-year drought.
Season MVP Shai Nitura was at her dominant best in leading Adamson to victory.
With everything hanging in the balance, Nitura converted an off-the-block kill to force the match’s final deadlock at 26-26. Fel Sagaysay then scored a drop shot to put her team to championship point.
Abby Segui closed out the match with a service ace from her powerful jump serve as the Baby Falcons rebounded from last year’s Finals loss to the Bullpups, who saw their two-season reign came to an end.
NUNS still has something to celebrate about as the boys team reclaimed the title with a 20-25, 25-16, 27-25, 25-21 victory over University of the East in the decider.
The Bullpups won the thrilling best-of-three series, 2-1, to annex their fifth title overall.
“Isa to sa sweetest kasi sa pinagdaan rin namin. Noong natalo kami nung Game 2, bumagsak kami noon. Kaya ginawa talaga namin lahat para matanggal ‘yung kumbaga malas,” said NUNS coach Edgar Barroga.
The Bullpups won the series opener, 39-37, 26-24, 22-25, 25-21, before the Junior Warriors took the Game 2 marathon, 18-25, 17-25, 27-25, 26-24, 15-11, to force sudden death.
Graduating setter Jeffe Gallego was named the Finals MVP.
