DIRECTOR Rey Gibraltar has been with Viva for more than a decade, prior to working on TV in teleseryes on GMA.

However, since he considers Viva his “home,” it didn’t take a second offer for direk Rey to venture into sexy flicks for Vivamax.

He worked at the helm of his first sexy venture for Vivamax, ‘Serbidoras,’ with stars Chloe Jenna, Aila Cruz and Denise Esteban.

“I will give the credit to the girls for Serbidoras,” direk Rey said. “They really prepared for this project. We did a workshop for their characters so they will know how to execute the scenes. That’s a big help to the ladies.”

Direk Rey is an award-winning writer and director of the multi-awarded film, ‘Wanted: Border (2009),’ that snagged the best director, best picture and best screenplay in Cinema One Originals Digital Film Festival.

He was also a nominee in the Gawad Urian Awards for best editing for ‘When Timawa Meets Delgado’ (2007).

Direk Rey was challenged with the first sexy project assigned to him. “Ang impression kasi ng iba, puro sex ‘pag Vivamax,” he explained. “I realized, mas mahirap ang preparation when it comes to the characters.

“I realized, it was easy to do a romantic-comedy especially on TV. But when it comes to Vivamax, I had to explain every sexy scene that my actors need to do. We need to discuss the scene. Iba ‘yung thrust bakit namin ginagawa ang particular scene.

“That’s important to me. Because it will really show in every scene if my stars really prepared for their respective characters.”

Direk Rey himself was surprised after he saw the rushes of Serbidoras. “When it comes to their scenes, the ladies did well,” direk Rey said. “I am also thankful because they trusted me. Mahirap gawin ang sexy film than a rom-com.”

The first time the director was convinced to do another sexy flick and provocative drama, he is now even looking forward to his next project.

“Fulfilling siya for me not just as the director or artist,” direk Rey said. “So I will give my nod to the second one. Before, when I was still doing theater, I dreamed of disrobing onstage for a play.

But it never happened. I never got to do it.”

Thankfully, the three ladies became very close on the set of Serbidoras, that’s why acting never became a competition for them.

“We take our characters seriously,” Denise said. “We play different characters, but we showed our efforts and gave our energy while shooting.”

Added Aila, “Nakatulong talaga sa amin ‘yung bonding namin. When it comes to the scenes, nabigay namin ng tama ‘yung hinihingi sa amin. Naintindihan namin ang kwento. Mabilis namin nagawa ang kailangan naming gawin.”

Chloe shared, “Magaan ang set everytime we started shooting. Hindi kami nakaramdam ng ano mang ilangan. Each of us delivered a different flavor on the set. Given na din in our respective personalities and characters that we play.”

The young ladies admitted they were all comfortable on the set with Direk Rey. They would often trade stories with him on their breaks and they built their trust on their first-time director. They were all very thankful.

“All their characters have redeeming factor,” Direk Rey granted. They were given a second chance. They were able to realize that sex is power. They can change. I hope the audience will see that.”
