After 47 years, Rizal scion leads Calamba City

CALAMBA CITY, Laguna – A scion of the national hero Jose P. Rizal, Roseller “Ross” Rizal, the new local chief executive of Calamba City, laid out the program for his “first 100 days” as mayor of the locality in an interview after taking his oath of office on June 30, 2022.

“Let’s lay down our programs with the city government for the next year; we will present them according to the timeline, the priority programs, the ones to be completed, the long unfinished programs and projects,” said Mayor Ross Rizal.

“Fulfilling the social commitment or contract between the incumbents and the people, where we have agreed on various contracts and services for the benefit and feel of every Calambeño as fulfilling our promise during the campaign,” Mayor Rizal added.

The Calamba mayor once again stood up for “positive reform and change” of the city that will be felt by all and benefit all Calambeños.

Mayor Ross Rizal was the 23rd mayor of the said city and third descendant of Rizal who was installed as mayor of Calamba after Sisenando Rizal Sr. in 1948-1951; 1952-1954 and Taciano Rizal in 1960-63; 1964-1967; and 1972-1975.

According to Mayor Rizal, “We have a lot to pay attention to, and the changes we have announced, you can expect us to do it for our dear Calambeño.”

Mayor Rizal, Vice Mayor Angelito Lazaro Jr., and councilors were formally sworn into office on June 30, 2022, in front of city hall employees, religious sectors, and nongovernment organizations held at the city hall lobby in Chipeco St. here.

Rizal took his oath of office before Judge Angelina Orendain of Calamba City RTC (Regional Trial Court), while Atty. Angelito “Totie” Lazaro sworn-in as the new Vice Mayor and the 12 city councilors before Judge Glenda Mendoza-Ramos of Calamba City RTC.

The newly elected councilors Jojo Catindig, Turne Lajara, Lian Aldabe, Dyan Espiridon, Johnny Lazaro, Pursino Oruga, Moises Morales, Doreen Cabrera, Atty Gerard Teruel, Arvin Manguiat, Edison Natividad and Kath Silva were also present and formally sworn in.

“I encourage all the city hall employees to return to their mother units, as most of the employees are detailed in various offices,” Rizal said in an exclusive interview with this People’s Tonight correspondent.

Rizal also signed his first executive order (EO) of “Recognizing moral development program for the city government and in 54 villages of the locality – we are with the Calamba pastors alliance in implementing moral values and recovery” on his first day of office.

Rizal stressed that he will take “immediate” action on the problem of garbage, traffic, and flooding in the lower part of the city and will end the delayed projects, and Calambeño can hope that the city’s funds will be spent appropriately.
