PBBM joins Bacoor City 10th cityhood anniversary
BACOOR CITY, Cavite – President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. (PBBM) graced the celebration and joined Bacoorenos in marking the Bacoor City’s tenth cityhood anniversary Thursday, June 23, 2022.
The incoming president together with known allies Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr., Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla, Bacoor Mayor Lani Mercado-Revilla, Cavite 1st District Congressman-elect Ramon “Jolo” Revilla III, Noveleta Mayor Dino Chua, and Cavite City Mayor-elect Denver Chua watched the parade of marching bands held at the new track oval in Bacoor Elementary School in Barangay Alima here.
The month-long celebration with the theme “Isang Dekadang Pagtutulungan para sa Kaunlaran” is jam-packed with activities showcasing local history, products, culture, and Bacoor’s “unprecedented” progress, according to the local City Tourism Office.
The Bacoor local government organized trade fairs, sports festivals, a “Pasasalamat Concert”, and job fairs – part of the celebrations will be its first-ever “Pride March”.
During the cityhood anniversary celebration, a thanksgiving mass was held in the historic San Miguel de Archangel Parish Church, followed by a civic parade by City Hall employees, representatives from various civic organizations, the private sector, NGOs (non-governmental organizations), and 15 of Bacoor’s famous marching bands.
People filled the stretch of Gen. Evangelista Street to witness the parade of local brass bands wearing their fancy costumes after it was halted for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The City of Bacoor was elevated into a component city by Republic Act 10160, ratified by the town’s registered voters ten years ago.
Then neophyte legislator Lani Mercado-Revilla, now Congresswoman-elect, authored the cityhood bill earning her the moniker “Ina ng Lungsod ng Bacoor”. Her husband, Sen. Bong Revilla Jr., sponsored the cityhood bill in the Senate.
The then-Senator, President-elect Marcos, was the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local Government.
June 23 is a special working holiday and “no class day” in Bacoor by virtue of Republic Act 10814.
