64-year-old dentist foils robbery in Ecija clinic
CABIAO, Nueva Ecija — A robbery-hold-up in broad daylight in this town was foiled by a 64-year-old dentist who overpowered a lone suspect on Monday.
Police head Maj. Gerald Fernandez said the robbery attempt was reported to them by barangay captain Dennis Pongco.
Pongco said suspect Rowel Azarcon, 35, of Bgy. Sto. Niňo, Gapan City, was caught while trying to rob the Dr. Manuel S. Crespo Dental Clinic in Bgy. San Roque at 12:30 p.m. on Monday.
An investigation showed the suspect entered the clinic and poked a knife at the clinic secretary while announcing a holdup.
Alert Dr. Crespo grappled with the knife-wielding suspect until the latter was overpowered.
Fernandez said the suspect tried to escape but was caught by bystanders.
The arrested suspect yielded a plastic sachet containing alleged shabu.
Charges for attempted robbery and violation of Republic Act 9165 are being readied for filing in court against the suspect.
