FORMER Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano has said he is now in the process of crafting a five-year economic plan for the country’s new normal to address the problems of various sectors brought about by the pandemic.
During the weekly episode of the Bayanihan Tayo Sa Kongreso Kwentuhan with BTS, Cayetano said he and Camarines Sur 2nd District Rep. LRay Villafuerte are aiming to finish the plan and present it to the public “in a week or two.”
Cayetano said the five-year plan will include existing programs of the government that are easy to implement but “madaling magpausbong ng negosyo”.
Noting the P500-billion increase in the proposed national budget from last year’s, Cayetano said the government must put more funding on existing programs instead of coming up with new but complicated ones.
“Maraming magagandang programa eh, hindi lang alam ng tao minsan,” he said.
The former Speaker cited health programs including the procurement of floating hospitals as well as bigger livelihood programs including agricultural-related ones as parts of his five-year plan.
He said the document will include simplified guidelines on how to access the programs so the public can avail themselves of the ones they need.
Cayetano reiterated that a higher cash aid for each Filipino family amid the pandemic will keep the economy running.
“Kino-compute ko, if we have two million micro-enterprise, sa P10,000 each magkano lang gagastusin d‘yan? P20 billion, ‘di ba?” Cayetano said.
