CALAMBA CITY, Laguna – A firework explosion has resulted in the killing of five persons, including a female senior citizen, while four others were injured, and a house was razed by fire due to the explosion in Canlubang, Calamba City, Laguna, yesterday morning.

Canlubang Barangay Chairman Larry Dimayuga said the identities of the fatalities remained unknown, while the senior citizen was 83 years old, and one minor boy.

Dimayuga said the fatalities were trapped inside their house when an explosion occurred at the GK Village, Canlubang, at around 10:00 a.m.

The house allegedly manufactured illegal fireworks, including “kuwitis” and other fireworks for the incoming Christmas and New Year.

The fire immediately spread to the nearby houses, and four residential homes were destroyed.

“Sa inisyal na imbestigasyon, ang pagsabog ay galing mula sa kusina kung saan maaaring may nahagip ang mga nagawang firework na naging sanhi ng explosion,” Dimayuga said.

Meanwhile, police are still investigating and identifying the name of the fatalities.
