DOLORES, Quezon – A municipal councilor of this town was shot dead in broad daylight while walking along the road at Purok 2, Barangay Dagatan, here.

Quezon Police Director Colonel Ledon Monte said Councilor Orlando Barsomo, 47, suffered two gunshot wounds in the body and one in the face.

Monte said Barsomo was doing his daily walking routine when he was attacked from behind by the lone suspect.

He said upon reviewing the installed CCTV (closed-circuit television) cameras at Bgy. Hall of Dagatan, it was learned that before the shooting, the victim, while walking, was confronted by the suspect.

After the confrontation, the suspect momentarily left on board his motorcycle while the victim continued walking.

“But in the other CCTV camera footage, it appeared that the victim was chased by the suspect, but unfortunately, the actual shooting was not captured,” said Monte.

A resident of a house near the crime scene said he heard the suspect cursing the victim shortly before he shot him.

“Minura po muna niya (suspect) si Konsehal bago niya pinagbabaril,” the witness told probers.

Monte said during the autopsy examination conducted by the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO), a deformed cartridge believed to be for a caliber .38 was recovered embedded in the body of the victim, an indication that the weapon used is of the same caliber.

Monte ordered the town police commander to exert their best effort to resolve the case as soon as possible.
