35 ‘gamblers’ spend ‘Heart’s Day’ in jail

LUCENA CITY – Thirty five individuals spent Valentine’s Day behind bars after they were arrested over illegal gambling in separate places as a result of intensified anti-illegal gambling drive of the Quezon Police Provincial Office (QPPO).

Quezon Police director Col. Joel Villanueva said the suspects were collared in eleven operations carried out by police operatives.

Of the 35 arrested suspects, Villanueva said 2 persons were accosted in Sariaya town while 2 others were collared in Mulanay town after being caught in an illegal cock fight.

He said 20 individuals were nabbed while playing tong-its in six separate places while 5 others fell after being caught in the act of playing bet game in Tayabas City.

Villanueva said the remaining 7 gamblers were arrested in San Andres town for playing pool games and in Real town for playing “cara y cruz”.

He said the QPPO continues to mount full-scale operations against illegal gambling and other forms of criminality in the province.
