CALAMBA CITY, Laguna – The Police Regional Office Calabarzon (Cavite/Laguna/Batangas/Rizal/Quezon) honored the two Explosive Detection Dogs during a retirement ceremony thru “Salamat Kaibigan Program” coinciding with the Friday flag-lowering ceremony on November 4, 2022, held at PRO4A Grandstand, Camp BGen Vicente P. Lim Grandstand here.

The EOD (Explosive Ordnance Division) Canine Dogs named “Sky” and “Gambit” were declared “retired” from law enforcement duties as police service dogs effective August 22, 2022, pursuant to General Guidelines Number 6 of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Memorandum Circular Number 2017-069.

“Sky” and “Gambit” were both male Belgian Malinois appointed on June 25, 2018, and rendered duties for PRO Calabarzon and PNP.

“Sky” served for a period of 4 years, one month and 28 days under the care of its handler, P/SSgt. Froilan. “Gambit” served for three years, six months and two days but passed away because of sickness on December 27, 2021, under the care of its handler P/SSgt. Remigio A. Ubaldo Jr.

Both canine dogs were assigned to the Regional Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Canine Unit 4A.

PRO Calabarzon Regional Director P/Brig. Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. expressed his immense gratitude to the two canine dogs for their invaluable help in detecting explosives beyond human senses, thereby preventing possible atrocities that may be caused by the use of explosives, illegal drugs, and firearms.

Sky was adopted and will be taken care of by his handler P/SSgt. Castillo. The retirement honors for these service dogs were the first ones done by PRO 4A to honor their invaluable services to the PNP and the community.
