TWO persons posing as non-uniformed police personnel soliciting unauthorized financial assistance using the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) for a team building activity were arrested by operatives of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD).

The suspects were identified as Editha de Jesus Candelaria, 48, of San Fernando, Pampanga and Allan Roque Castillano, 47, of Gapan, Nueva Ecija.

Their arrest came after P/Cpl. Kevin Acierto sought the assistance of operatives from the Novaliches Police Station (PS 4) regarding a message sent by a certain Arnold Santos who claimed to be assigned at the Office of the Regional Director (ORD).

According to Acierto, Santos was allegedly asking for money for a scheduled team building. It turned out that Santos was only used by the two suspects.

However, on that same day, PS commander Lt. Col. Jerry Castillo received a message from their official Viber Group informing all station commanders that someone pretending to be an NCRPO staff was soliciting cash.

Castillo immediately conducted an entrapment operation with the QCPD’s Anti-Cyber-Crime Team under P/Cpt. Michael Bernardo.

Acierto sent money to Candelaria and Castillano through GCash remittance.

The suspects were arrested while they claimed the money at the Helen’s GCash Remittance Store in Brgy. Unang Sigaw at around 7 p.m.

QCPD Director Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III said the suspects were charged with violation of Art. 177 and Art. 135 before Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office. Joel dela Torre with OJTs Paul Anthony Bacon, Christine Joie Macalalad
