A Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group (PNP-DEG)-led anti-narcotics operation in Cebu City on Thursday evening ended up in a gunbattle which left two “high-value targets” dead after they conspired to sell over P30 million worth of shabu to an undercover officer, a report to PNP chief General Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar said.

PNP-DEG director Brigadier Gen. Remus B. Medina said the two suspects identified only as alias “Ryan” and “Kerlou” yielded 4.5 kilograms of the so-called “poor man’s cocaine” worth P30.6 million, the buy-bust money paid to them by a poseur and an AR9 and a caliber .45 pistol with several live ammunition.

A red Toyota Vios used by the suspects to transport the drugs was also impounded by the police shortly after the shootout in Bgy. Mambaling in Cebu City around 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Medina said the recovered shabu were placed in three large plastic bags with Chinese tea packaging.

Medina said the PNP-DEG Special Operations Unit 7 launched the buy-bust operation with the assistance of the Regional Highway Patrol Unit 7, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, Cebu City Police Office and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency under Director General Wilkins M. Villanueva.
