A TOTAL of 182 individuals have been baptized in Catholic rites and have received the baptismal certificates they need in processing other government papers as a result of the Revitalized-Pulis sa Barangay or R-PSB program of the National Capital Region Police Office, the Journal Group learned on Sunday.

NCRPO director, Major General Edgar Alan O. Okubo said that thru their help, the newly-baptized residents of Tondo, Manila are now holders of birth certificates which they need to acquire different government clearances and permits and at the same time avail of various government livelihood packages and other benefits.

Thirty-two of them are residents of Barangay 128 in Upper Smokey Mountain in Balut, Tondo, Manila. They were transported to the NCRPO headquarters in Camp Bagong Diwa in Bicutan, Taguig City to join the ‘mass baptismal’ officiated by the NCRPO chaplain at the camp’s St. Joseph Chapel.

Okubo said that another 150 residents of Bgys. 125 and 138 in Tondo also availed of the mass baptismal rites under their R-PSB program.

The official said their R-PSB personnel are daily visiting different communities in the metropolis including those belonging to the poor to bring them real government service and address their different concerns.

He explained that unknown to many, there are still a big number of poor Filipinos who have no birth certificates which is a main requirement in getting government service. Tens of thousands of these ‘poorest of the poor’ have already gotten their birth certificates as a result of the R-PSB program of the Police Regional Office 11 in Southern Mindanao led by former PRO11 director, Lieutenant Gen. Filmore B. Escobal and Maj. Gen. Okubo who used to be Escobal’s deputy regional director for administration.

“Layunin ng gawaing ito na matulungan ang ating mga kababayan na makatanggap ng katibayan ng kapanganakan bilang isa sa mga pangunahing kasulatan ng pagkakakilanlan na kinakailangan sa pag-aaral, paghahanap ng trabaho, pagtanggap ng mga benepisyong nagmumula sa ating pamahalaan, at iba pang mga serbisyong maaaring mangailangan nito,” said the NCRPO chief.
