ELEVEN known supporters of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Northern Samar this week surrendered to local police and military authorities following a series of negotiations, a report to Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, General Benjamin C. Acorda Jr. said Friday.

According to Police Regional Office (PRO) 8 director Brigadier Gen. Vincent S. Calanoga, the 11 members of the so-called Underground Mass Organizations or UGMO of the CPP (Communist Party of the Philippines)-NPA took their oath of allegiance to the government following their surrender in Barangay Napo in Palapag, Northern Samar.

The 11 yielded following talks with officers from the 2nd Northern Samar Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC), the Palapag Municipal Police Station (MPS), the PRO 8 Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB), and the Army’s 20th Infantry Battalion (IB).

The surrenderers were identified thru their aliases “Ka Randy”; “Ka Beri”; “Ka Nas”; “Ka Kolokoy”; “Ka Bats”; “Ka Mubo”; ‘”Ka Nelit”; “Ka Elmer”; “Ka Bal”; “Ka Kardong”; and “Ka Jonie.”

They were previously identified as mass base supporters of the CPP/NPA’s Front Committee 15 under the command of one “Ka Raz/Dodong.”

“The successful surrender of these 11 CTGs is a clear indication that our law enforcement agencies are making strides in our efforts to neutralize threat groups and maintain peace and order in the country,” said Acorda as he commended the officers and men who facilitated the surrender of the 11 men.

The PNP chief also renewed his call on CPP/NPA rebels and sympathizers to follow the lead of their former comrades and surrender to the authorities.

“Our government is always ready to help and support those who choose to turn their backs on violence and extremism and embrace a peaceful and law-abiding life. So, I urge other members of the UGMO and other CTGs (Communist Terrorist Groups) to surrender and choose the path of peace and progress for the betterment of our communities,” he said.

The 11 will be enrolled in the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP), enabling them to return to the mainstream of society while providing for their families.
