A DOCTOR-LAWMAKER has called on the government to conduct weekend vaccinations against coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) to accommodate people who are working on weekdays.

“Weekend inoculations are important as this would allow people to continue working and earning for their families and loved ones,” Iloilo 1st District Rep. Janette Garin said.

Garin said there are many workers who are willing to get vaccinated but cannot get one as their weekday jobs are getting in the way.

“Kung aabsent sila, makakaltasan pa sila sa suweldo, bagay na hindi dapat mangyari dahil nakapahalaga na buo ang maiuuwi nilang kita sa pamilya,” Garin said.

Garin, a former secretary of the Department of Health (DoH), said weekend inoculations would give workers a chance to rest after getting vaccinated.

“If they get vaccinated using mRNA vaccines, they can rest on Sunday while those taking the inactivated vaccine can receive their jabs on Sunday,” Garin said.

The Department of Health (DoH) may tap volunteers to perform the weekend jabs to give the regular vaccinators some rest from their weekday duties.

Garin last week spearheaded the launching of the weekend jabs in the municipality of Guimbal in Southern Iloilo. First Sunday of the program inoculated 400 people.
