UNIVERSITY of the East nailed the first twice-to-beat slot in the Final Four with a 25-11, 25-15, 25-7 dismantling of winless Ateneo yesterday in the UAAP high school boys volleyball tournament yesterday at the AdU Gym.

The Junior Warriors needed only 61 minutes to chalk up their 12th win in 13 matches as they zero in on finishing as the top-ranked team at the end of the double-round eliminations.

“Medyo may sigh of relief, siyempre pinaghirapan rin naman ng mga bata, kaya deserved nila yung twice-to-beat advantage,” said UE assistant coach JC Cuevas, who took charge of this match in place of head mentor Raffy Mosuela.

National University Nazareth School moved on the cusp of securing the remaining twice-to-beat berth as it recovered from a rough patch in the first set to beat University of Santo Tomas, 22-25, 26-24, 25-22, 25-18.

Defending champion Far Eastern University-Diliman, meanwhile, kept its hopes alive of forcing a playoff for the No. 2 slot with a 25-16, 25-11, 25-9 sweep of La Salle-Zobel.

The Bullpups are now at 11-2, still a game ahead of the third-running Baby Tamaraws, who now have a 10-3 record.

Adamson remains in the hunt for the remaining Final Four slot with a 25-15, 25-11, 25-8 romp of UP Integrated School.

The Baby Falcons are now level with the Junior Tiger Spikers in fourth place at 7-6.

“Sabi ko lang sa kanila, kahit anong mangyari d’on sa game ng UST vs NU, gusto ko pag naglaro kami against UP, all out pa rin sila. Gusto ko kasi kahit anong mangyari, manalo man o matalo, matatapos namin yung season namin na maganda,” said Adamson coach Marvin Ramoso.
