GOVERNMENT all-out efforts to meet the mushrooming employment needs of the burgeoning population are, without doubt, paying good dividends.

Note that job creation, along with the modernization of agriculture and eradicating smuggling and the illegal drug menace, is a top priority of the government.

In fact, officials of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) see an improvement in the country’s employment figures in the last quarter of the year.

No less than DOLE Secretary Bienvenido “Benny” Laguesma attributed the good news to the anticipated upstick in economic activities during the Holiday Season.

“Talagang buhay na buhay ang lokal na ekonomiya sa panahon ng napakasayang Christmas Season sa Pilipinas,” according to a highly-successful local entrepreneur.

We, thus, commend Secretary Laguesma, one of the bright boys of the late Labor Secretary Blas F. Ople, for coming up with programs aimed at generating more jobs.

Although the overseas employment program remains a pillar of the local economy, the government is out to create more and more quality and high-paying local jobs.

The latest Labor Force Survey conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) showed that underemployment rate also decreased last September.

The DOLE secretary said this is indicative that there are now more workers with regular, permanent and remunerative jobs” in this Southeast Asian country.

Indeed, the Marcos administration is doing a great job in addressing the unemployment problem, which was aggravated by the crippling pandemic.
