MIGUEL Quiñones, last year’s AAP Driver of the Year for Karting, dominated the series by taking the checkered flag on the third round and leading the race from start to finish.

This win solidified his lead in the National Senior Category of the ROK GP Philippines Karting Series held at the Clark International Speedway last July 9.

Quiñones, nicknamed “The Assassin” in the karting circles because of his unprecedented quadruple victories in the weekend races, hopes to duplicate the victory spree to seal his current 22-point lead against his closest rival, Gabriel Carag, who has 154 points.

The reigning Karter of the Year who also races offshore under the DRM team of Malaysia and ZM team of Italy. is in the hunt for a rare back-to-back National Senior title.

“The Assassin” hopes to duplicate the feat again when the tournament resumes on July 30 to 31 at the Carmona Racing Circuit where he has a perceived homecourt advantage.

Aside from karting, Miguel has a busy race schedule ahead including competing again in Round 2 of the TGR Vios Cup and the forthcoming Formula V1.

He also trains in autocross by running from time to time in the Philippines AutoCross Championship Series (PACS).

All races are there to improve his car maneuvers and handling control skills.

“I am looking forward to race at the South Garda Karting Track in Lonato,Italy later this year. This is the reward for garnering and holding first place in the ROK GP Cup Philippines. If I take the overall championship that means I get a spot in the ROK GP Cup World Finals to represent the Philippines. That would be a great honor again,” Quiñones said.

Last year, Quiñones represented the country in the world ROK GP Cup.

If his winning trend continues, he will for sure be doing it again this year.

The top 3 Senior Karter’s category scorecards based on the latest official count:

1. Miguel Quiñones, 176 points;

2. Gabriel Carag, 154;

3. Manuel Rafa Caceres, 142.
