TAGAYTAY CITY, Cavite – Taal Volcano Network recorded 9 volcanic earthquakes, including 8 volcanic tremor events having durations of 2 to 5 minutes, and 1 low-frequency volcanic earthquake around 8:10 to 9:10 in the morning, Monday, March 14, 2022.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), activity at the Taal’s main crater was dominated by the upwelling of hot volcanic fluids in its lake which generated plumes 2,200 meters tall that drifted southwest.

Sulfur dioxide (SO2) emission averaged 14,524 tonnes/day on March 13, 2022.

Temperature highs of 63.7°C were last measured from the main crater lake on February 25, 2022.

Based on ground deformation parameters from electronic tilt, continuous GPS (Global Positioning System) and InSAR (Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar) monitoring, the Taal Volcano Island and the Taal region has begun deflating in October 2021.

Alert Level 2 (Increased Unrest) prevails over Taal Volcano as per Phivolcs.

The government reminds the public that at Alert Level 2, sudden steam or gas-driven explosions, volcanic earthquakes, minor ashfall, and lethal accumulations or expulsions of volcanic gas can occur and threaten areas within and around Taal Volcano Island.

Taal last erupted in January 2020 affecting more than 736,000 people in Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) (Region IV-A), Central Luzon (Region III), and National Capital Region (NCR) – leading to an evacuation of more than 135,000 people, damage to infrastructure and livelihoods, and disruption of essential services.
