Taal evacuee tests positive for COVID

A 51-YEAR-OLD woman in an evacuation in Agoncillo, Batangas on Monday tested positive for COVID-19, the Municipal Health Office yesterday said.

The result was learned after the municipality conducted antigen testing on the Taal evacuees.

According to the Municipal Health Office, the woman, a resident of Agoncillo who had to leave her home following Taal’s rumbling, showed symptoms of the dreaded virus.

Agoncillo town is one of the high-risk barangays identified by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology

After testing positive, the woman was immediately transferred to an isolation facility while his family was brought to a quarantine facility to prevent the spread of the virus.

The local health office started the contact tracing on people whom the woman had got in close contact with Agoncillo has 25 active cases of COVID-19 .

Evacuees in Taal, Batangas were also subjected to random antigen tests to determine who contracted the deadly virus and isolate them immediately.

Latest report showed no one among those subjected to antigen test tested positive for Covid-19.

Antigen testing for Taal evacuees in Batangas is ongoing.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, some 1,570 families or 5,620 individuals are staying in the different evacuation centers in Batangas.

As of 8 a.m. yesterday, the Taal Volcano Network has recorded 171 volcanic earthquakes, including 13 low frequency volcanic tremors, in the past 24 hours.

High levels of volcanic sulfur dioxide gas emissions and steam-rich plumes that rose 1,500 meters before drifting southwest were generated from the Taal main crater.

Alert Level 3 remains over Taal Volcano, which means magma extruding from the main crater could drive explosive eruption.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the entire Taal Volcano Island is a permanent danger zone and entry into the island, as well as the high-risk barangays of Agoncillo and Laurel, are prohibited.

All activities on Taal Lake are not yet allowed.

Phivolcs advised communities around the Taal Lake shores to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures against possible airborne ash and vog and calmly prepare for possible evacuation should the volcano unrest intensify.
