HOUSE Speaker Martin Romualdez once again called on the Philippine Navy and Philippine Coast Guard to ensure the safety of Filipino fishermen and their freedom to fish in the West Philippine Sea.

The leader of Congress made the call to the Navy and Coast Guard on Saturday after China’s warning that they will arrest anyone entering their ‘territory’ starting June 15.

“Gawin sana ng ating Navy at Coast Guard natin ang lahat to make sure na walang mangingisda natin ang mahuhuli nila sa mismong teritoryo natin,” said Speaker Romualdez.

It can be recalled that China has been claiming the WPS saying it is also part of the South China Sea.

“Hindi tayo papayag na basta na lang huhulihin nila ang mga kababayan natin na naghahanap-buhay lang sa karagatan ng ating bansa,” Speaker Romualdez added.

The Navy and Coast Guard are joining forces to monitor the WPS from Zambales to Palawan.

“We cannot afford to lose even just one fisherman to them who is simply making a living in our own waters,” ani Speaker Romualdez.

“Definitely, hindi tayo sang-ayon sa kautusan na yan ng China lalo na yung pagbabawal sa lahat ng mangingisda dahil sa pinaiiral nila na fishing ban daw diyan sa WPS,” pahabol pa ni Speaker Romualdez.
