THE Davao City government’s “Student Siblings’ Laptop/Tablet Sharing Project” has given out a total of 335 laptops and 1,380 tablets to students enrolled in junior and senior public high schools.

“Noong dumating ang pandemic, biglang nagblended-learning. Nakita natin na maraming nangangailangan ng laptop and tablet na mga learners kaya ginawa natin ang project,” Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD) vice presidential candidate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte said on her online show “Sara All for You.”

The project, funded by the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China, was launched in October 2020.

Commissioner Norman Baloro of the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor, who is also in charge of implementing the project, said the project’s goal was to help learners and their parents meet the needs for online classes during the pandemic.

“Napakasaya ng ating beneficiaries na nakatanggap ng tablet and laptops na galing sa local government unit of Davao,” Baloro, who guested on the mayor’s show, said.

He added that students who have not availed of the Eskweka Davao project or other government-sponsored scholarship programs were prioritized as beneficiaries of the gadget project.

To avail of the project, Baloro said, beneficiaries must have two or more siblings that they can share the laptop or tablet with.

“Hindi lang tayo nakatulong sa isang bata kundi natulungan natin ang lahat na magkakapatid na nag-aaral,” Baloro said.
