S. Mindanao cops net 3 HVTs, rape suspects

POLICE Regional Office (PRO) 11 Director Brigadier General Benjamin H. Silo Jr. on Tuesday announced the arrest of three “high-value targets” (HVTs) for illegal drugs suspects facing non-bailable charges in Southern Mindanao following a series of anti-criminality operations in the region.

In a report to Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr., the PRO 11 director said that one of the suspects, with the alias “Lai” is now facing a non-bailable case for sale and possession of prohibited drugs under Republic Act (RA) 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Silo said that “Lai” was arrested in a buy-bust operation in Buhangin District, Davao City, past 10 p.m. last Sunday.

Undercover officers of the Buhangin Police Station 5 led by Major Bernie Suaga and the PRO 11 Regional Drug Enforcement Unit (RDEU) under Capt. Glaby Murillo recovered some 30 grams of shabu valued at P204,000 from the possession of the suspect.

The suspect also yielded a mobile phone she used in contacting the poseur and the P25,000 worth of buy-bust money topped by a marked bill.

The two other suspects, both tagged as the “most wanted” drug personalities in Davao City, were arrested in a sting inside the Gilles Compound in Malagamot, Panacan area around 9:50 p.m. Sunday.

The official said that the two suspects, both 51-year-olds, yielded an estimated five grams of the so-called “poor man’s cocaine” worth P34,000 and the P16,000 worth of buy-bust money topped by a marked P1,000 bill during the sting conducted by members of the Sasa Police Station under Maj. Jake Golez.

The two are also facing charges for violation of RA 9165.

The other three suspects were arrested in separate manhunt operations in the region last Sunday.

Silo said that alias “Jikjik,” the no. 1 “most wanted person” (MWP) in Maco, Davao de Oro, was arrested in Bgy. Mapaang by local policemen on the strength of a warrant of arrest for rape issued by Judge Celestial Aranda-Gonzales of the Mabini Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 57.

The 2nd suspect, also the no. 1 MPW in Maragusan, Davao de Oro, was tracked down in his hiding place in Bgy. Katipunan. The suspect was ordered arrested without bail for a qualified rape case by Judge Regina Sison-Montiel of the Nabunturan RTC Br. 3.

On the other hand, the 3rd suspect, tagged as the 6th most wanted man in Mati City in Davao Oriental, was arrested based on a warrant for violation of RA 8353 or the Anti-Rape Law of 1997 in relation to RA 7610 or the Anti-Child Abuse Law issued by Judge Semiramis Bituin Castro of the Mati City RTC Br. 5.
