THE various political parties in the House of Representatives will be proportionately represented in the leadership of the chamber, Leyte 1st District Rep. Martin Romualdez said Monday.

Romualdez, House Majority Leader of the previous 18th Congress, said while many members of the larger chamber of the 19th Congress are qualified for leadership and committee posts, the House would be guided by “our time-honored traditions of having the respective parties properly represented.”

“We will also go by seniority, merit, experience, and of course, the initiative to make the sacrifice and hard work needed for each of the positions,” Romualdez told reporters in an ambush interview.

Asked who would be his successor as Majority Leader, Romualdez said: “We’ll let you know next week. We’ll try to get those who are willing to make the sacrifice of hard work and get a consensus to help us on (legislative) measures.”
