‘NO One Will Save You’ is a horror movie on Hulu, but it’s not the ghost story kind. It’s about an extraterrestrial invasion, but with a twist. It has practically no dialogue and just shows on screen the dangerous predicaments that the main character experiences throughout the film.

The lead character is Brynn (Kaitlyn Dever, best known for the films “Booksmart” and “Rosaline” and the series, “Unbelievable” about a series of rapes in the U.S.). Brynn lives all alone in the house where she grew up after her mom died. She works as a seamstress and the only excitement she gets is when the mail man comes.

She wakes up one night when she senses that an intruder has entered her home. She finds out it’s an alien who uses telekinesis to throw her around. But she gets to kill it by accident when she stabs it on the head with a broken ornament.

She then goes to the town’s police station to report what’s happening. She meets there the parents of her best friend, Maude, who blames her for the death of their daughter. She tries to flee the town but realizes that the aliens have already put the town people under control, just like in the classic sci-fi flick “Invasion of the Body Snatchers”.

She returns to her house and braces for more alien attack. She is very brave to fight them off and you’d admire her for her guts. But one alien manages to hold her captive and puts a wiggling creature inside her mouth. The movie then assumes a dreamlike quality.

Brynn seems like she’s transported into the past when her mother and friend Maude were still alive. She seems hallucinating and tries to extract the wiggly creature from her mouth that later transforms into a clone of her.

More complications follow, including a sequence that reveals a secret from Brynn’s past. At this point, we felt that the movie’s director, Brian Duffield, is not sure as to what kind of satisfying conclusion he’d give to the nerve-wracking story of Brynn, because as it is, we’re sure most viewers will consider the ending they chose as quite a big letdown.

We won’t be surprised if viewers would compare it to “A Quiet Place”, which is also about alien invasion and is definitely a better realized movie. The CGI used in the alien characters here will remind you of the visitors from Steve Spielberg’s “E.T” and “Close Encounters of the Third Kind”.

We think the last act of “No One Will Save You” is an annoying rambling mess and looks like no one really tried to save it from being a baffling disappointment, just like “Signs”, another alien invasion flick that has a ludicrous conclusion.

What somehow redeems the movie is Kaitlyn Dever’s very committed portrayal of the lead character. She succeeds in making us care for Brynn. It’s still not as memorable as Sigourney Weaver’s performance as Ripley in “Alien”, but she really gives it her all.
