LUCENA CITY – Quezon Governor Angelina “Doktora Helen” Tan hailed the Quezon Police Provincial Office (QPPO) for doing an “excellent job” in its anti-criminality drive in the province and for working hand in hand with the local government units (LGUs).

In her speech at the traditional “New Year’s Call” on Monday, Tan also honored the police’s primary mandate on peace and order as an “important component” of progress in the province.

Tan delivered her new year’s message after hearing the year-end report presented by the QPPO headed by its provincial director, Colonel Ledon Monte.

Monte led the 41 police chiefs of the province’s 39 municipalities and two cities, along with members of QPPO command group and heads of PNP (Philippine National Police) National Support Units based in the province.

The lady governor has noted the reduced total crime incidents in the province as shown in the audio-visual presentation of the QPPO under Monte, with 3,940 total crime incidents from January 1 to June 30, 2022, compared to 3,584 from July 1 to Dec. 31, 2022, when Gov. Tan has assumed her seat as governor.

“And for this, we commend and congratulate the Quezon Police Provincial Office under Col. Monte’s watch,” said the governor.

Tan also discussed why Quezon province has persisted in being “the poorest” in the Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) region and mentioned it is a “hotbed of insurgency” and the prevalence of various acts of violence and criminalities in previous decades, hinting as most likely among the reasons why the province has been a “laggard” in the whole region.

She stressed that the police concern for implementing peace and order is one of the important components in attaining progress in the province.

The program ended after Monte led a ceremonial toast to honor the governor and conferred with the “Dahong Palay” plaque of appreciation for her exemplary leadership and stewardship as the first female governor of the province.
