FIL-JAPANESE karateka Junna Tsukii won four qualifying fights in the women’s -50kg. kumite event to make it to the gold medal match of the WKF Premier League at the Altice Arena in Lisbon on Friday.

Continuing her drive to secure qualification to the Tokyo Olympics, Tsukii bested her foes from Colombia, 10-2, Iran, 2-1, Egypt 1-1 (3-2 via flags) and France, 2-0, to gain a spot in the Finals.

A 30th Southeast Asian Games champion, Tsukii will face her Kazakhstan opponent today for the gold.

“I will do my best in the Final. Thank you for cheering and supporting me,” Tsukii posted on her Facebook page.

The 29-year old Tsukii has been training in Serbia since February as part of her Olympic preparations.

A victory by Tsukii will redeem herself after a disappointing showing in the WKF Premier League in Istanbul, Turkey two months ago.

The country’s other female Olympic hopefuls, Jamie Lim and Joan Orbon, are currently in a training camp in Istanbul.
