THE Philippine Red Cross (PRC) mobilized its basic services teams anew as PHIVOLCS (Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology) reported volcanic earthquakes in Mt. Bulusan from 5:00 a.m. of June 10 to 5:00 a.m., and the local governments conducted a pre-emptive evacuation of residents of affected barangays in Juban, Sorsogon.

More than 22,000 persons from four municipalities are affected.

Since the eruption of Mt. Bulusan on June 5, the PRC Welfare Team has served hot meals to 1,704 individuals through the PRC Hot Meals on Wheels.

The trained staff and volunteers have provided psychosocial first aid (PFA) to 1,445 adults and child-friendly activities designed as PFA to 76 children.

The water, sanitation, and hygiene team have given hygiene education to 191 evacuees.

The Safety Services team has served 101 patients who had their blood pressure taken or had minor injuries. The PRC Emergency Medical Services Unit is on standby to treat and transport patients if needed.

PRC Chairman and CEO, Senator Richard J. Gordon, assured that the premier humanitarian organization is monitoring the situation 24/7 and is always ready to respond.

“Our volunteers on the ground regularly update me, and as always, the Red Cross is first to respond. Our volunteers and staff are always ready because we are present in the communities,” Chairman Gordon said.

The PHIVOLCS announced on its Twitter account that Mt. Bulusan is under alert level 1, and entry into the four-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone is not allowed.
