THE Philippines moved up on top of the Group A table with a 7-0 romp of Singapore in the AFF Women’s Championship at the Rizal Memorial Stadium last night.

Displaying the skills that gave them a breakthrough appearance in next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup, the 53rd-ranked Filipinas were simply superior against the No. 132 Singaporeans.

Isabella Flanigan opened the scoring in the 8th minute, while a Singaporean own goal two minutes later doubled the Philippines’ lead.

Tahnai Annis opened the floodgates for the Filipinas with a 19th minute strike, while Sarina Bolden netted her 11th international goal in the 38th minute.

Sara Eggesvik, Kaya Hawkinson and Anicka Castañeda scored second-half goals for the Philippines.

Earlier, Thailand rallied from two goals down to force a 2-2 draw with Australia.

Ploychompoo Somnuek produced the equalizer in the 59th minute as the Thais were able to savage a point against the young Matildas who struggled to secure a winning goal in the final 30 minutes of play.

Following up its 4-0 rout of Indonesia in last Monday’s opener, Thailand moved up to four points in Group B second place.

The result left Australia, which opened its campaign with a 0-1 loss to the World Cup-bound Philippines Monday night, ruing its chances of making it to the semifinals.

Stanford standout Amy Sayer opened the scoring for the Malditas in the 17th minute while Mackenzie Hawkesby converted a penalty eight minutes later to double the Matildas lead.

The Thais pulled one back in the 40th minute courtesy of Kanyanat Chetthabutr’s long range strike.

Over at the Biñan Football Stadium in Laguna, Indonesia and Malaysia shared the spoils following a 1-1 draw.

The Malaysians recorded their second straight draw for two points in third place, while the Matildas, the Indonesians and the Singaporeans are at the bottom of the standings with one point apiece.
