THE interactive web-based system called “PalayStat” that the Department of Agriculture-Philippine Rice Research Institute (DA-PhilRice) developed six years ago has been gaining more users.

The website (https://palaystat.philrice.gov.ph) has already registered 78,172 unique views this October from only having 1,442 unique page views in 2016.

PalayStat contains data derived from the “Rice-based Farm Household Survey” (RBFHS) conducted every five years, including farm inputs, costs and returns, and yield.

Rice-related statistics from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) are also available on the platform.

The platform is intended for researchers and policymakers, and these data are useful in planning and implementing agricultural interventions.

PalayStat is also one of the key sources for RiceLytics, a data analytic model that enables the availability of data on rice area, production, yield per hectare, self-sufficiency, consumption, and future performance requirements at various levels.

Furthermore, it also contains books, manuals, posters, and policy briefers produced by DA-PhilRice’s Socioeconomics Division.

One of the users, researcher Rochelle Caliwagan said that she uses the platform in consolidating data for provinces that her team covered and when she wrote an article on technology consumption.

“The interface of PalayStat is user-friendly,” Caliwanagan said.

Meanwhile, another researcher, Ralph Ante, claimed that he appreciates the platform because it is very useful to researchers. It has also tremendously improved from its previous version, he said.
