THE Office of the Vice President (OVP) on Wednesday cautioned the public against dealing with unscrupulous individuals posing as employees of the agency to extract money from their targets.

This, following the arrest of Joel Calis, 41, who also claims to be the vice president of RNA Foundation Philippines, Inc., of 24K1 General Tirona St. Bgy. 138, Caloocan City.

Calis allegedly introduced himself as a staff from the OVP to solicit financial assistance for the senior citizens, PWDs and solo parents under the jurisdiction of the Department of Social Welfare and Development Region 3.

OVP spokesman Atty. Reynold Munsayac also appealed to the public to first verify or report to them any individuals representing their Office to be able to solicit money.

The operation against Calis stemmed after the Office of San Jose del Monte (SJDM) Mayor Arthur Robes verified with the OVP if the suspect is indeed working for the OVP.

After the OVP said the Calis in not an employee of the agency, San Jose del Monte Congresswoman Florida Robes sought the assistance of the authorities who proceeded to Sitio Gulod Road 2, Bgy Minuyan, San Jose del Monte, Bulacan on Sept. 6

There, the authorities approached Calis, who was presiding over the processing of application forms with DSWD logo infront of supposedly beneficiaries of DSWD “ayuda”.

Calis, who was wearing a blue polo shirt with a logo of the OVP introduced himself as an employee of the agency and was arrested when he failed to show any identification issued by the OVP.

The SJDM police are filing criminal case against Calis, the OVP said.
