New Year’s wishes and resolution

Lito CincoA FEW days from now and everyone changes calendars as 2022 comes to an end while 2023 emerges.

And as usual, people look back and how it has been in their lives, how good or how bad it has been, the highlights of that year, and for some, the time to make New Year’s resolutions.

For the resolution side, I take pride in the fact that I always accomplish my New Year’s resolution, year in, year out.

Every year , I have resolved not to make any New Year’s resolution , and I have been very successful in keeping my word on this.

Now on the wishes side, my biggest wish for myself in 2023 is that I finally lick my health problem, a skin problem that I have been battling for more than a year and a half.

If not for this concern, I would be very happy with how the year has been, for myself, my work, and my immediate family, well except maybe for the fact that ny son suffered an accident on his Vespa and had to undergo two operations on his right foot, but has been recovering well with his regular therapy.

.For Philippine sports, looking back, I wouldsay it was a good year in general, thanks to several lady athletes led by Olympic champion Hidilyn Diaz who won 3 golds at the world championships as she prepares to retain her first place finish in the next Olympic Games.

My wish for her, that she gets the necessary financial support she needs to accomplish her goal, she has a winning formula already that has gotten her this far.

Tennister Alex Eala made us proud when she won the junior singles championship in this year US Open and looks like she is in track for more as she has been making the cut in major international tennis tournaments.

My wish for her, she wins a senior title next time, period.

Caloy Yulo and EJ Obiena also deserve kudos for their impressive perfirnances internationally.

Our women’s national football team also reached a milestone, qualifying for the next FIFA World Cup after winning the Asian championship.

My only wish, more local home grown talents make it to the team.

Talking of World Cups, the Blu Boys finishing in the top ten in the last men’s softball World Cup in New Zealand merits recognition, my wish, next time, we make it higher than 10th place.

It was in men’s basketball where we floundered as our Gilas team bowed down to Indonesia in the finals of the event in the Vietnam SEA Games

, and automatically, it becomes my wish that we return to the top in 2024 in Myanmar.

Still on basketball, how I wish the Ginebra Gin Kings beat the Bay Area Dragons in the on going PBA finals, they won Game 1 but odds are still that the Dragons will emerge champion.

For my favorite spectator sport of women’s volleyball, definitely the sport was goid in 2022, particularly with the PVL and the first ever tournament that featured all the UAAP and NCAA women’s teams, and as expected National University swept it together with the earlier UAAP crown they won after 65 years.

I also heard that there may be two new teams in the PVL this coming year, I wish it comes true, but my bigger wish is for Jaja Santiago to be back with the national team in the SEA Games and gelp give us a top three finish in women’s volleyball.

Finally , I wish the best of the coming year for everyone, coupled with a no-return for Covid 19 in the country, at least not at 2020 level.

Happy New Year to all. By Lito Cinco
