AS part of President Rodrigo Duterte’s legacy to the Filipinos of bringing safe, clean and affordable water at all times, Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) Administrator Guiling “Gene” A. Mamondiong announced that he is expanding its operations beyond its headquarters in the national capital to make its services more accessible to the people.

According to Mamondiong, LWUA will begin opening satellite offices across the country with mobile water treatment vehicles beginning next month. He stated that six field offices were in the pipeline, with the one in Davao City set to be launched on March 8.

“This will make LWUA more responsive and immediately accessible to those in the countryside,” he explained. “They don’t have to fly to Manila for needed assistance, especially during times of calamity.”

The LWUA chief added that all the field offices would be manned by LWUA personnel, headed by a licensed civil engineer. Each office would craft plans and programs in collaboration with the Regional Development Council (RDC). It is also responsible for monitoring and supervising the performance of water districts under its jurisdiction.

Mamondiong added that after Davao City, field offices would be established in Lucena City (Quezon), San Fernando (La Union), Tacloban City, Cagayan de Oro City and Bicol. Thefield offices will cover respective regions, from Region I to the BARMM.

He said that LWUA would need the full cooperation of the local government units as well as other government agencies like the Department of Agrarian Reform and the Department of Public Works and Highways.

“We are really shifting into high gear during this last stretch of the administration,” he added.
