UPANG tumulong na puksain ang rabies sa komunidad, nagsasagawa si Sen. Cynthia A. Villar ng “Libreng Kapon at Ligate” para sa mga aso at pusa sa siyudad ng Las Piñas City at Bacoor.

Sa ika-4th leg ng proyektong ito, muling inihayag ni Villar na endemic ang rabies sa Pilipinas.

Sinabi niya na mahigit 300 ang namatay sa rabies noong nakaraang taon.

“Rabies is the most acutely fatal infectious disease transmitted through bites of stray dogs and cats. Rabies is also a public health problem despite the availability of rabies vaccines,” sabi pa ni Villar.

“The incidence of rabies is highest in Metro Manila and surrounding areas,” dagdag pa niya.

Lumahok ang 150 pet parents sa 4th Leg ng “Libreng Kapon at Ligate” para sa mga aso at pusa sa siyudad ng Las Piñas at Bacoor bago natapos ang buwan ng Marso.

Pinangunahan ng senador kasama ang Villar Foundation at Vets Love Nature ang one-day activity na idinaos sa Villar Foundation Farm School.

Layunin ng quarterly activity na isulong ang responsible pet ownership.

“We are also promoting proper animal care such as making sure that our dog is not a nuisance to others. Our pet dog or cat should always be on a leash or under the control of a responsible adult when outside of their premises. Responsible pet owners are to pick up dog waste and do their best to minimize barking,” sabi pa no Villar.

Kabilang sa aktibidades ang libreng kapon, ligate o spaying at anti-rabies vaccinations.

Nagpapatayo rin ang Villar Foundation ng animal shelter facility sa Camella Springville, Bacoor City.

Aniya, mareresolba nito ang talamak na problema sa mga ligaw na aso at pusa na nagkakalat ng rabies sa komunidad.
