AN Indian national who deceived a company manager of P.2 million by offering to sell his corporate bank account was arrested on Tuesday evening in Pasay City.

Southern Police District (SPD) Acting Director P/BGen. Roderick Mariano identified the arrested suspect as Varun Gupta, 24, an Indian national, while his still unidentified cohort managed to escape, taking with him the P200,000 cash paid by the complainant.

Investigation showed that the suspect managed to communicate with the 48-year-old company manager through a telegram application and offered to sell to the latter his Indian corporate bank account valued at P200,000 which the complainant agreed.

Razorpay website defines a bank corporate account as an account that can be opened in the name of a business with corresponding benefits including improving credibility, higher investment opportunities, offers liability protection, creates better Financial Management and easier Financial Transactions.

At around 6 p.m. Tuesday, the suspect, along with his cohort, and the company manager met at the SM by the Bay in Pasay City where the victim handed over the P200,000 cash as payment for the suspect’s Indian corporate bank account.

After receiving the money, the suspects excused themselves to get drinking water but the victim, suspecting that something was wrong, surreptitiously followed them.

When the duo walked out of the establishment to flee, the victim chased them, which led to the arrest of Gupta while his unidentified cohort managed to escape taking with him the cash money.

The suspect, who was currently detained at the Pasay City Police Station Custodial Facility, will be charged for violation of Art. 315 of the Revised Penal Code Swindling (Estafa) before the Pasay City Prosecutor’s Office while a manhunt operation was still ongoing for the arrest of his cohort.
