GENERAL TRIAS CITY (GenTri), Cavite – In solidarity with the celebration of National Heritage Month (NHM) 2023, with the theme “Heritage: Change and Continuity,” the City Government of General Trias presented activities regarding the said celebration offered by the local government unit (LGU) starting on May 19, 2023.

Mayor Luis “Jon Jon” Ferrer IV and the City Tourism Office offer a celebration on May 19, 20, 21; and May 26, 27, and 28, 2023, featuring the “Bakte Dance Challenge.”

“Bakte” is a dance that is part of Caviteño culture. Derived from the reversed word Kabite (Kabite = Etibak = Bakte), it is a type of dance performed by farmers after their planting in gratitude for their abundant harvest.

The movements in the Bakte dance demonstrate the common occurrences in the farms in the province, such as planting, flying kites, and washing in streams or rivers.

70’s band “Boyfriends,” who popularized the songs “Dahil Mahal Kita”; “Sumayaw, Sumunod”; “Bistado na Kita”; and “Dance with Me,” will be performing on May 20, Saturday at General Trias City Park in Barangay San Juan 1 here.

Larong Pinoy games will be featured on May 21, Sunday such as “agawan base,” “luksong baka,” and “luksong tinik,” and many others.

“Grand Sagala” for the traditional Flores De Mayo will be paraded along the town proper on May 26, acoustic band night on May 27, Saturday, and General Trias composite band concert on May 28, Sunday.
