Gandler wants restart with Cignal

FRESH from a disappointing end to a collegiate career, Vanie Gandler wants a restart.

And the former Ateneo standout finished the year strong, as Gandler was among the vital cogs in Cignal’s third place finish in the Premier Volleyball League Second All-Filipino Conference.

The HD Spikers actually secured back-to-back bronze medals to cap off the 2023 season, and Gandler is still hungry for more.

“It’s been great. I’m so happy to be here. I always tell them. I’m so grateful to be here, that’s all I can say,” said Gandler after Cignal bested Chery Tiggo in the battle for third last Saturday.

“I have no words. No words.”

After deciding to forego her final year for the Blue Eagles in the UAAP last May, Gandler wanted a refreshing change, as she came on board in the Invitational Conference.

She had to earn her spurs in the mid-season tournament, playing behind Rachel Anne Daquis and Ces Molina before Gandler eventually got her biggest break in the season-ending conference.

With Daquis missing the entire tournament due to a coaches’ camp in the United States, Gandler assumed as one of the starting outside spikers for Cignal and responded well to become another offensive option aside from Molina and Jovelyn Gonzaga.

With her first season done, Gandler can’t wait to go back to the work after the holidays and help the HD Spikers to finally get over the hump and reach on top in the 2024 PVL wars.

“For me, individually, I still have so much to learn,” said Gandler.

“It’s my first year here and I’m barely halfway through what I can do and for the team naman, of course more gelling, like I’m new to the team, ate Jovelyn just came back so it’s stuff we need to work on. Communication,” she added.
