FAR Eastern University Cheering Squad rocked with a near-flawless Bohemian Rhaposody-inspired run to rule the UAAP cheerdance competition before 12,522 fans last night at the Mall of Asia Arena.

With its perfectly executed pyramids in its three-minute run, FEU finally ended its 13-year title drought in the toned done competition played under strict health and safety protocols.

“Praise God for this victory. It feels good, ilang taon na kaming runner-up,” said FEU coach Randel San Gregorio.

“Finally naka-isa kami. We are just happy we got finally over the hump.”

Adamson Pep Squad, which last won in 2017, produced a clean routine in its Wild Wild West-inspired performance, especially with its pyramids en route in claiming second place.

National University Pep Squad’s 90s themed routine was fantastic but its efforts was not enough as the Bustillos-based squad ended a two-season reign by finishing third.

Coach Ghicka Bernabe took three days “to do major adjustment” in their run but everything went okay to remain in the podium.

NU, which has set the bar high by winning six of its last seven competitions, saw its performancemarred by several tumbling errors.

Winning his first championship since he started handling FEU in 2015, San Gregorio went speechless after receiving the trophy.

“Medyo lutang ako doon eh. Wala ka nang mahihiling pa,” said San Gregorio, whose team had three runner up finishes prior to winning this one. “We are just so happy. Everything went well.

Definitely, this is the sweetest.”

Other performances saw University of the Philippines Pep Squad’s Gangnam Style with a mix of MC Hammer’s “Too Legit To Quit” was solid but it lacked the oomph that the Diliman-based cheerdancers is better known of due to short of preparations.

There was pop culture into it with University of the East Pep Squad’s Britney Spears and La Salle Animo Squad’s Lady Gaga medley produced a clean one but was short of sensational.
