Ex-rebel cuts ties with NPA

CAMP GENERAL ALEJO S. SANTOS, City of Malolos, Bulacan — A 50-year-old former rebel on Thursday voluntarily surrendered to the San Rafael, Bulacan police.

In a report to Bulacan police director Col. Relly Arnedo, the former rebel was identified as alias “Ka Brando,” a member of Hukbong Mapagpalaya ng Bayan of the CPP-NPA assigned at Sandatahang Yunit Propaganda from 1991 to 2008 operating in Bulacan.

Lt. Col. Laurente Acquit, 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company leader, said joint elements of the 2nd PMFC, Bulacan 1st PMFC, PIU Bulacan PPO, PIT Bulacan, 70th IB and DRT MPS facilitated the voluntary surrender of “Ka Brando.”

“Ka Brando” is now under the custody of the 2nd PMFC for documentation and debriefing.

Arnedo said the Bulacan police vows for an intensified campaign against insurgency and terrorism to ensure the provision of social services, employment opportunities and improved quality of life in communities that have been experiencing or are vulnerable to armed communist conflict.
