Ecija SK chair, 6 others held in anti-illegal gambling raids

PALAYAN CITY — Seven individuals, including a Sangguniang Kabataan chairman, were rounded up by the police after they were caught playing illegal card games in separate anti-illegal gambling operations conducted in this city on Wednesday.

The seven suspects were also arrested for violation of the standard health safety protocols as prescribed by the Task Force on COVID-19, said Lt. Col. Santos D. Mera Jr., city police chief.

Mera identified those nabbed as SK chairman Bobby Ferrer, 23, Lea Quiming, 47, Maria Lourdes Aguilar, 34, Jennifer Bautista, 33, Daisyree Ferry, 36, Ludy Ferrer, 52, and Judith Balarbar, 39, all of Bgy. Sapang Buho, this city.

The suspects were playing pusoy and tong-it’s when operatives conducted the successive raids in the area at 3 p.m. and 3:10 p.m., said Mera.

Bet money totaling P93 and two sets of playing cards were seized during the operation.

Charges for violation of Presidential Decree 1602 and Republic Act 11332 are set to be filed against the suspects.
