SAN ANTONIO, Nueva Ecija — Suspected illegal drug peddlers are nowadays resorting to “GCash” in getting paid for every street-level drug transaction made in selling their illegal stuff.

This was revealed by town police head Maj. Rommel C. Nabong to the Journal Group during an interview on Friday in this town.

Nabong said these illegal drug traffickers are now making use of the GCash mobile payment services in order to avoid detection by police authorities.

“Kung dati-rati puro kaliwaan ang usapan kung saan mismo iaabot ang pera kapalit ng droga, ngayon ay hi-tech na dahil dito sa GCash,” said Nabong.

The police official said after the GCash payment was made, the drug pusher would now text the user-buyer to pick up the purchased illegal drugs at a pin-pointed place by the former.

“Halimbawa sinabi sa text ng tulak na doon mo pick-up-in sa may tulay ng Sta. Rosa, ganun na ang sistema ng pagbenta ng droga dahil siguro para iwas-huli sila,” said Nabong.

He said he learned of this latest drug modus from a shabu peddler from Bgy. Papaya, this municipality, who got arrested recently.

Nabong also revealed that this town has been applying to be classified as a “drug-cleared” municipality after all of its 16 barangays have been declared “drug-cleared” by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency last March 17.

It would be recalled that when Nabong took over as the police chief of this town last year, Mayor Arvin C. Salonga directed him to solve the problem of illegal drugs, saying that when it comes to illegal drugs there should be no compromise or settlement.
