Dolly De Leon is jury chair at 1st Summer MMFF

THE first Summer Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) named its Jury Chair for its maiden “Gabi Ng Parangal,” slated Tuesday at the New Frontier Theater in Quezon City.

The MMFF Execom has chosen Dolly Earnshaw de Leon, an internationally acclaimed Filipino film, television, and theater actress, as Jury Chair of the 1st Summer MMFF and “known for her excellence and integrity as an artist and as a person.”

Dolly is best known for her roles in the films “Verdict”; “Historya ni Ha”; and gained international recognition for the Palme d’Or winning “Triangle of Sadness.” For her performance in Triangle of Sadness, she became the first Filipino actor to be nominated at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) and Golden Globe Awards.

In May 2022, De Leon signed with US-based artist agency Fusion Entertainment, and she has lined up a string of international films, among them the “Grand Death Lotto,” directed by Paul Feig, led by John Cena, Awkwafina, and Simu Liu.

A FAMAS Award and LA Film Critics Award winner, De Leon has an extensive stage experience and a BA in theater arts from the University of the Philippines. She is also a trained actress who has been in more than 30 stage productions and won numerous awards for her performances. In 2023, British Vogue listed De Leon among “30 of the world’s most famous stars.”

De Leon will head a group of credible jury members who will be named along with the winners at the Gabi Ng Parangal at 8 p.m. (April 11) telecast on OnePH with a delayed telecast on TV5 at 10:45 p.m.
