Doing sexy movies not new to Direk Dennis
DENNIS Marasigan has directed indie films for Cinemalaya and Cinema One like “Sa North Diversion Road”, “Anatomy of Corruption” and “Vox Populi”. He now gets to direct his first movie for Vivamax, “Do You Think I Am Sexy?”, that will start streaming on September 9. It’s a sexy film and he says it’s not new to him as he has assisted Directors Joey Gosiengfiao and Elwood Perez before in the sexy films they did in the 80s.
He himself wrote the screenplay of “Do You Think” and he’s glad it was approved when he pitched it to Viva.
“The story is based on actual events that happened to a website na inireklamo dahil sa kanilang content,” he says. “That’s where I got the idea. Cloe Barreto here plays a students na breadwinner sa family niya and she earns a living by being a cam girl and content creator in the website called Do You Think I Am Sexy.com. The conflict comes when her regular client, Marco Gomez, turns out to be a teacher in her college and blackmails her.”
Also in the cast are Chloe Jenna as Marco’s girlfriend who gets jealous when she sees him with Cloe, Ava Mendez and Milana Ikemoto as the other cam girls working with Cloe in their website, and Hershey de Leon as Cloe’s colleague in their boarding house who’s hostile to her at the start but later on becomes her friend. They have their own sexy scenes.
Since this is his first erotic movie, how did he handle the sexy scenes? “First, I talked to the cast muna before shooting started. We had a workshop so they’ll know what is expected from them at alam na nila what to do in the difficult scenes. I ask them kung ano ang puede nilang gawin sa sexy scenes. And game naman sila, there were no compromises at all. It helped a lot, kasi sa set, naging magaan ang ang work namin. Tawa lang kami nang tawa during the shoot.”
So he didn’t have any difficulty at all? “Hindi ako nahirapan dito kasi mababait naman at magagaling ang mga artista ko. First time ko to do a sexy film, but sex is part of our life and what I want to show here is how people use sex to gain power over others. Yun ang tinatalakay sa movie namin, the power dynamics because of sex. We showed what would happen if yung ibang clients, ayaw na ng sex online lang at ang gusto nila is actual physical contact. How do you handle that?”
He is very pleased with Cloe Barreto’s performance as the lead actress. “She is so good in the movie and I’m so pleased with her performance that is fearless. She actually plays two different roles as Charlize, the student, and as Elle, the cam girl. Sa kanya nakatutok ang kuwento kaya babad siya on screen. And she really delivers.”
