THE mayor of Municipality of Datu Montawal (formerly Pagagawan), Maguindanao Del Sur survived an ambushed perpetrated by armed riding-in-tandem criminals Wednesday evening in Pasay City.

Mayor Ohto Montwal Caumbo of Tunggol Datu Montawal was rushed by his companion to Ospital ng Maynila where he underwent treatment for gunshot wounds in the hip and left arm before he was being transferred to Asian Hospital in Muntinlupa City.

Police said Mayor Caumbo is now in stable condition.

In a report submitted by the Investigation and Detective Management Section (IDMS) of Pasay police to the office of Southern Police District (SPD) Director P/BGen. Kirby John Kraft, Mayor Caumbo and his companion identified as Ronald Caumbo, 43, a municipal planning officer, were on board a van traversing Roxas Boulevard Service Road in Bgy. 4, heading towards Gil Puyat Avenue at around 6:30 p.m. when two men on board a motorcycle drove closer to their vehicle.

The motorcycle back rider suddenly drew a handgun and fired towards the victimS before they sped away.

IDMS investigators recovered two empty shells from unknown types of firearms from the crime scene. Footage from a nearby CCTV in the area is still being reviewed by authorities for possible identification of the suspects.
