DEFENDING champion Creamline hopes to rediscover its old fiery form against debutants Capital1 in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference preliminaries at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

While the Cool Smashers are favored to hurdle the Solar Spikers in their 4 p.m. clash, skipper Alyssa Valdez wanted to see how her team will respond from a tough defeat.

Creamline saw its 19-match winning streak come to an end with a 18-25, 24-26, 23-25 defeat to Chery Tiggo in Santa Rosa, Laguna last Saturday.

The Crossovers’ stunning victory serves as an opportunity for the Cool Smashers to reassess their strategies, identify areas for improvement and regroup for the challenges ahead.

“Having this loss now gives us a chance to reflect and make necessary adjustments,” said skipper Alyssa Valdez.

“It’s a wake-up call for us to stay focused and not become complacent. There’s still a lot of volleyball to be played, and we’re determined to bounce back stronger,” she added.

Creamline is now locked in a five-way logjam in first place at 5-1 along with PetroGazz, Cignal, Choco Mucho and PLDT.

Capital1, meanwhile, hopes to bounce back from last Saturday’s 25-17, 20-25, 25-20, 19-25, 10-15 loss to Galeries Tower.

Coming off its biggest victory since the 2021 Bacarra, Ilocos Norte bubble where it won its first PVL championship, Chery Tiggo knows that the rest of the league has targets on its backs.

The Crossovers, who are not far behind the leaders at 3-2, hope to bring down another preseason favorite in the Angels in the 6 p.m. mainer.

Eya Laure, who forms Chery Tiggo’s 1-2 punch with Mylene Paat, emphasizing the importance of being in the same page to deliver good results.

“Teamwork lang. Isa rin naman yun sa mga dreams din namin na sana kung merong mga naka-pink, kahit papano i-achieve naman na kalahati next time,” Laure said.

PetroGazz, which has won three in a row, will turn to Brooke Van Sickle, the league’s second best scorer behind Sisi Rondina and No. 1 in the service department, and Jonah Sabete, who has been gaining trust from Japanese coach Koji Tsuzurabara.
