Class suspension

ADMITTEDLY, more schools are now affected by extreme heat, alarming health, education and local government authorities.

However, it is heartening to know that school officials and local government units (LGUs) are authorized to suspend classes.

And these schools may shift to implementing alternativer delivery mode (ADM) to ensure the learning continuity of students.

Various quarters, particularly parents, welcomed the good news, noting that sweltering heat inside classrooms causes heat stroke.

Heat stroke is the most serious heat-related illness that occurs when the body can no longer control its temperature.

Symptoms include throbbing headache, confusion, nausea, dizziness, hot, dry, red or damp skin, fainting, and loss of consciousness.

Unlike private educational institutions, classrooms of many public schools throughout the country do not have even small electric fans.

“Ang totoo niyan ay maraming estudyante at guro ang hirap na hirap na kasi parang oven ang loob ng mga silid-aralan,” said a mother.

Note that classrooms of private secondary and elementary schools are airconditioned.

Thus, it is certainly saddening if some of our school and local government authorities fail to do their job of protecting our students.

Kaya ang kailangan dito ay maging alerto ang taumbayan. lalo na ang mga magulang, sa mga liblib na pook sa buong bansa.
