AN anti-narcotics operation in Lapu-Lapu City in Cebu on Friday morning resulted in the arrest of a top drug target in Central Visayas and the seizure of more than two kilograms of shabu worth P13.8 million, Philippine National Police chief, General Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar announced on Saturday.

The top cop identified the arrested suspect as Mark Gil James Dangarang, 22, resident of Bgy. Duljo Fatima, Cebu City.

Eleazar said the suspect was arrested in a buy-bust operation in Sitio Saac II in Bgy. Mactan in Lapu-Lapu City around 9:45 a.m. Friday.

Recovered from the suspect’s possession were a backpack containing 2,033 grams of the so-called ‘poor man’s cocaine’ valued at P13,824,400 and the boodle money topped by three marked P500 bills.

The PNP chief commended members of the Cebu City Police Intelligence Unit, the Police Regional Office 7 Regional Special Operations Unit and Regional Drug Enforcement Unit and the PNP Drug Enforcement Group who launched the operation in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.

“The PNP will be relentless in our pursuit of criminals behind illegal drugs. We will go after high value targets. Hindi tayo titigil hangga’t hindi natin nalilinis ang bawat komunidad sa iligal na droga na siyang sumisira sa kinabukasan ng bawat pamilya at kabataan,” Eleazar warned anew.

The arrested suspect is now facing non-bailable charges for sale and possession of prohibited drugs under Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, he said.
