Bong Go urges unvaxxed individuals to get primary and booster shots vs COVID-19
AS chair of the Senate Committee on Health, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go appealed to those who have not yet been vaccinated against COVID-19 to avail of both their primary and booster shots when eligible already.
This, after the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases’ (IATF) decision to maintain Alert Level 2 for COVID-19 in 26 provinces across the country due to low vaccination rates.
In an ambush interview on Tuesday, April 25, after personally aiding indigent residents in San Jose de Buenavista in Antique, Go highlighted the importance of getting vaccinated and boosted against the virus, saying, “Kaya dapat nating i-encourage ang ating mga kababayan na magpabakuna para protektado tayo dahil ang bakuna po ang tanging susi o solusyon para unti-unti tayong makabalik sa ating normal na pamumuhay.”
He reminded the public that getting vaccinated not only protects oneself but also the people around them, especially the vulnerable populations such as the elderly and those with underlying medical conditions.
“Hindi po tayo makakatipon ngayon dito kung hindi po dahil sa bakuna. Kaya ini-engganyo ko po ang mga kababayan natin, ‘wag maging kumpyansa,” he said.
Go reminded that, as long as COVID-19 is still present, the risks remain high, and waiting for it to disappear completely before taking action is not a viable option.
“Kaya importante po magbakuna tayo at kung qualified na po kayo sa pagpapa-booster, magpa-booster na tayo dahil ‘yan po ang isa sa pamamaraan na makabalik tayo sa ating normal na pamumuhay. Kung bakunado, mas protektado po ang ating buhay,” he urged.
The second dosage of COVID-19 booster shots for adults above the age of 18 can now be received six months after the initial dose as directed by the DOH’s guidelines for the public to obtain their second booster shots, released recently.
Meanwhile, medical frontliners, individuals aged 50 and above, and those with comorbidities have to wait three to four months after their initial booster shot before receiving their second, contingent on the brand of their initial dose.
In the National COVID-19 Case Bulletin released by the DOH on April 24, it was indicated that a total of over 78.4 million Filipinos have completed their COVID-19 vaccination regimen as of March 19. Additionally, over 23.8 million individuals have received their first booster shot, while nearly 4.4 million have already received their second booster dose.
