ANOTHER game, another near triple-double performance by Maverick Ahanmisi.

Ahanmisi continued to make a big impact for Barangay Ginebra, posting 21 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists in thw Gin Kings’ 107-102 win over Rain or Shine in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

And this time, there was no meltdown for the Gin Kings.

Ahanmisi, who tallied 21 points, 13 rebounds and one assists in Ginebra’s controversial 91-93 loss to Magnolia last Nov. 19, was again the star of the night.

Ahanmisi nailed five of his seven three-point shots, including a dagger 3 that put Ginebra ahead for good, 103-99, with 54 seconds left after Rain or Shine threatened at 99-100 following Leonard Santillan’s own triple.

“That was the shot of the game,” said coach Tim Cone, referring to back-breaking triple which was perfectly set up by Scottie Thompson against the zone.

“It was his (Ahanmisi) shots that kept us in the game (after ROS seized an early lead) and kept us in the lead for most of the game,” added Cone.

Ahanmisi also grabbed a crucial defensive rebound sfter a miss by Gabe Norwood then threw an outlet to Christian Standhardinger for the insurance layup.

Import Tony Bishop led the way with 25 points and 12 boards while Standhardinger added 19 points and 11 rebounds for Ginebra, which moved up to 2-1.

Andrei Caracut scored a career high of 32 points for Rain or Shine, which dropped to 0-4.

Caracut, the No. 23 pick in Season 46, became the lowest pick to score that much since Roi Sumang, No. 26 overall in 2015, had the same output for Blackwater in the 2017 Governors’ Cup.

Import DaJuan Summers. had 25 points on 8-of-23 shooting and 12 rebounds for the Elasto Painters, who also lost to Meralco (102-107), NorthPort (103-113) and Phoenix Super LPG (88-99).

“Yeng Guiao’s teams are always tough. They move the ball and they’re not afraid to shoot the ball. And when they get hot, they’re a tough team to play. They’re focused tonight, they’re a desperate team with 0-3, they needed to win,” said Cone.

“I just have to give our guys credit for battling. Even though they’re not playing well, they battled all the way through and found a way to win. These are the kind of games that you build character with,” he added.
